Religion and RapeCrime News Opinion

The Rape Story- Religion barely has anything to do with it.

Every day, the front page of the newspapers is not filled with news that would actually make your day better; it is full of articles and stories that make you despise the whole human race. The recent rape incidents are proof of the same.

In UP’s Unnao district, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped a high profile person and her father was thrashed the accused’s brother before he died in police custody a few days after her daughter died.

In Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir, an eight-year-old girl from the Bakherwal tribe was allegedly sedated, gang-raped and eventually killed 8 people after the accused had held her in captivity for a week in January. You would not be alien to the various other news pieces, which present detailed rape incidents of girls/ women ranging from 3 months to 70 years old, this blasphemy to the extent that people did not even spare animals.

Every day you send your daughter, wives, mothers, hoping that you will see them at end of the day, with everything in place like a routine, but you never know even if a rapist is someone among the crowd, someone who looks just like you, walks like you and carries himself like you.

These cases of the girls from Unnao and Kathua have shaken the world, more so, because in the Kathua case, the rapists are being defended in the name of religion, they are being defended in the name many organisations and social media pages have also been spreading rumors stating that this whole incident was false and that it was staged to bring down a particular community, despite whatever has happened, there still exist people like these who will go to any lengths to prove a point.

The long pause of political leaders on these cases has stirred up a lot of controversy and angst in people, whereas many other leaders have commented stating their support in the fight against the satanic part of the human race.

In yet another chilling incident a few days back, the Geeta case caught the public eye wherein, a 10-year-old girl was picked up from Ghazipur and raped in a Madrasa a Maulvi. This goes on to prove that religion has barely anything to do with the inhumane activities of people.

Candle march, silent protests and parades were carried out all over the world for showcasing the support for these incidents. However, if only this was enough for our government to understand that some serious measures need to be taken, then the case today would have been different.

Since a very long time rape cases in India have been prevalent, if anything, the number and sadism has only increased in the country, no binding laws to protect the dignity of girls, women and the country.

Although in light of these recent events, the Union Cabinet has approved an ordinance declaring death penalty for rapists of girls below the age of 12 years and the Maulvi in the Geeta case has been arrested.

Yet, it is high time that the government takes some major and concrete actions for a larger section of victims, against the people with zero humanity and morality and as a lesson for those who think it is okay and something that they can get away with in this country.
